Gonna try catfishing for the first time next week at a local fishing hole by my work.

Don't really feel like using any type of dead/live baits.

Anyone have any experience in using artificial baits for kitties?

Any tips shared will be a great help.

Thanks

FFF

I was fishing for LMB one time and I caught a cat on a drop shot robo worm. That was the only cat I have caught on artificial so not sure how productive it would be to target them specifically like that.

I have heard that you can catch them on crankbaits when they are spawning.

I've caught Channel cats on cranks, Tube baits, Jigs and Rooster tails. Most times strong and fresh attractant sprays were involved . They are agressive feeders in their own right but to get the numbers up bait is king, lures are the rare exception. For bait use that is not too messy Berkley makes a dough bait ball type stuff for cats that is easy to handle and has only a very slight odor. Comes in bags with medium size pre-formed chunks. If you want to get serious about cats you have to use cut baits , just how it is in their world.

Hmm...didn't think about using gulps. What scent are gulps?

Thanks for the info. I never chased kitties(only with my vehicle, j/k). Just want to give it and I don't wanna do it by soaking baits and waiting. The dough bait sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.

Hey guys,
Catfish will eat ANYTHING! I have caught them on virtually everything. But!,...
For the most part they prefer to forage rather than hunt. So for you to rely on artificials you are also relying on the kitties to be in a hunting mood. Artificial baits are probably low percentage, particularly during daylight hours. Throw something dead and smelly, better odds.

PS Best bait ever? fresh dead DFG trout. How I know that? I will never tell.
Second best? fresh dead bluegill.
Third? fresh cut mackerel.
