So the guy that pours my lures let me know that he can now add UV to all the plastics that he pours for us. First just wanted you guys to know this second does anyone use UV coated baits what are you comments on this good or bad. Just want to know what everyone thinks.

I have used Pro Cure for a long time now and it has the UV in it. I think the UV works. It is just an addition to the scent, amino acids and bite stimulants. A fish can see my lure better since it is lit up by UV flash.

For example: It is a cloudy day and the water clarity is down. My lure would be seen better than a lure without UV at the same distance from the fish. The odds are my lure would draw the bite. UV that is the answer.

I haven't tried them yet, but I did notice at the tackle stores more and more UV Flash spinners are coming out for Trout. Blue Fox, Panther Martin and Worden's Lures Rooster Tails (along with their trolling blades) now have UV coated blades. Funny thing too, lots of baits on the peg boards, but not lots of UV baits, not sure whether that means the stores aren't stocking a lot of them, or that they can't keep them in stock because of sales, ha ha.

Also, there's a very interesting article on UV baits in the 2012 Summer issue of Bass Angler Magazine about whetther Bass can see UV baits. Of the 4 "experts" that they interviewed, 1 says no, 1 says maybe and 2 say yes. Guess it's time to start fishing them and see for myself, ha ha.

I had a chance to fish the UV baits the other night at HH. I don't feel it was a good test because it was just a tough night all together. When I get a chance I will try again, I say it cannot hurt to have everything in your advantage when you are fishing. Much rather have the odds on my side then not on my side.

PS We're doing some home re-modeling and had to turn off the power for awhile to work on the electrical outlets last night. I grabbed my Black Light(the one to see what UV baits look like) to look around and noticed that anything that was bright white (like copy paper), chartreuse or orange, really glowed under the black light, where everything else just looked like a purple flashlight pointing at it.

The UV baits come alive with the UV rays from the Sun. UV rays can penetrate clouds and water to a certain depth. Fishing them at night without the sun will not make them glow. sunny

Hey Guys,
FishinPhil is correct in that you need a source of UV light to stimulate the UV component to fluoresce. But,... there is a good time to use it at night! (can you guess when?)

Also, Fish cannot see UV light. ( it is beyond the visible light spectrum for most organisms) But much like you and I, can feel it's affects, (ever been sunburned on a cloudy day?) and see it reflected when it strikes the right surface. (one that has an organic component that fluoresces) So the guys in the article were sort of right.

At any rate for certain conditions a UV additive can be very advantages! Deep water, murky water, cloudy days, and that certain time of the month at night. (hint, hint,...)

Besides what could it hurt? Hee Hee!!
