Hello everyone. its been awhile since I last posted. Wanted to know if anyone has tubed the Flagstaff area?  The wife and I may take a vacation to the area. I'm retiring in July so we need to start looking around for a new place outside of CA. Anyway if you have any tips I'd appreciate it.  Thanks, GT

Thanks Jeff.........keep up the good work, I really enjoy this site. I'll be 66 years young this June and I think its time to really enjoy the things that make me happy, and one of them is fishing!

Hey Gt check out High Springs and Fort White Florida. North central Florida has no hurricanes and weather is real good. Fishing is unreal. 3 months sticky hot weather. Awesome place. Fresh water bass is so wide open and Flounder, Reds, Trout 35 min to the coast. My new homestead is gonna cost 55K Mobile home 2 acres of land and 40 ft to the Sante Fe River. I'm still working so this location is 20 min outside Gainseville. My mortgage is 150 bucks a month.

Thanks Pdawg.......Florida has probably some of the best all around fishing in the states, but the wife don't like the BUGS.

Thanks Bro, GT

Consider SC, especially the Midlands.
Affordable, good fishing and just enough culture to satisfy - without being too trendy or self absorbed.

Big lakes, small ponds, the ocean all in or within a few hours. You will have to learn to say, "Hey," "Ya'll," and "Reckon," and at least give grits a try.
But the friendly folks and scrumptious BBQ make up for that.

Charlotte is alright - a little too big and full of itself to suit me.

Even though I'm from Southern California originally (Oxnard), I've become an Honorary Son of the South over the last three decades. Not really disposed towards "city livin'" anymore, Charlotte isn't really my speed.

But you ought to visit there, and take a swing to Columbia, SC while you're out this way.
Many people also like Asheville and Charleston, too - funkier, more eclectic vibes in those places.

PS. Don't fail to try the two forms of "Carolina BBQ"... Both so good, you'll lick your face!

Certainly don't blame you for wanting to get out of La Habra after that last quake and bailing on California's insane taxes.
We have been throwing around the idea of selling and moving to Arizona as well. So far I have looked around Prescott. Man can you get a lot for your buck out there.
Really interested to know what you find. Keep us posted.

Years ago I lived in Phoenix and used to visit the
Rim Country up around Payson, AZ.
Plenty nice, if a bit thin on tubing opportunities.

My mom and brother live in Gilbert, and Phx respectively. Much cheaper housing than here. She bought a brand new 4 bd 2.5 bath house for 350k and a new 2 bd 2bth house for 120k.

As for fishing, Ive fished Lake Pleasant and Bartlett but only from a boat. We killed the catfish (I forgot which lake, I just remember being at a dam, and every cast would result in a hookup almost instantly using chicken liver) and did ok on bass from both lakes.

Well the furthest east I've been, Ft. Eustis, Virginia, thanks to the US Army. It was August and I just remember the humidity. Other than Missouri (mothers side), I'm a westcoaster. I love Seattle, too much rain for the wife.

Flagstaff and the surrounding area seems pretty nice, from what I've read. A friend goes to Sho-Lo, AZ., says they have some nice lakes in the area.

Ya the earthquake was pretty good, wife was at home, I was at work and it rocked Ontario Airport. It shook her up pretty bad, went to bed with clothes on. No major damage, just more cracks...........

New member and first post.  Greetings from beautiful AZ.  I thought my first post should be a useful one.  Better late than never.  I've been float tubing here for the past 5 years and the state has plenty to offer.  Around Flagstaff you can find some options.  West of Flagg there is Dogtown Res, trout and cats.  Lower Lake Mary has trout, northern pike and crappie; but boats w no horse power limits, shaky ride.  Off the beaten path is Kinnikinnick Lake (I'm sure I misspelled it), browns, rainbows at high elevation!

Heading out next weekend, will post pics and report.
