Hello from the central valley! Cool  Home of agriculture & dairy farming! Shocked  I've had my first float tube in storage for more years than I care to remember & I finally took it out, inflated it and tried it out in the pool! Shocked  Very Happy Just got my fins, fly rod mount & fin keepers so, I'm thinking of heading out this coming weekend to a small lake just up the road from the house.  I noticed that I sit down in the water more than the those using a Fish Cat as there's no flotation device on my seat.  Thinking about buying a square flotation device and attaching that to my seat to see if it'll bring me a bit higher.  If I wear my chest waders, I have to be very careful to not sit back too hard and fast or I'll fill up with water.  Look forward to learning all the cool things you can do with the float tube!
Tight Lines,  Jim

Welcome Jim, glad you found us! I think your seat cushion idea sounds perfect.

From what I've read, it was fly fishermen that pretty much started float tubing and I can't wait for some fly fishing reports!

Welcome to the forum Jim!
You can see in my avatar I in the old donut style tube. They keep your head above water as opposed to a comfortable seat on the water.  I hope you enjoy the forum.

Hey Jim welcome so glad you have decided to join us on the dark side. Sounds like you have an older tube, I believe some have tried what you are going to do as far as adding a floating pad to the sling seat to get you up a little higher. Let us know how it works and we look forward to hearing your reports.

Well, I ran to Bass Pro Shop and got a square flotation device with two straps on it. Cut the straps and added a couple buckles & with 2 D-rings under the fabric seat, I ran the straps through those, clipped in the buckles and was able to keep myself up out of the water & dry. I was fishing in Los Banos Creek Reservoir with my 5/6 weight fly rod. Got a few hits on white/red popper & then landed a little bass on yellow popper. All-in-all, a good time out & really enjoyed being able to motor around with the FT! Looking forward to the next adventure!
Jim Very Happy

I think personalizing your gear and setup is big part of the fun. It's cool when you get an idea, try it out, and it works! Good for you!
