Sea Dog hit the tube?

Has anyone ever had a sea dog hit the underside of your tube or either side of the tube where you can touch the animal? I would think that the animal wants to stay clear of you, but I was just thinking about this.

Been there done that... I've had quite a few run ins with the dogs over the years... they are more curious that aggressive. I believe they think we may be invading there feeding area... but one spring a few years back there was one particular seal in san diego that knew when we would throw lucky craft minnows he would show up to eat whatever we hooked

I did hear a store of 2 guys fishing when one guy got hit from below a bumped up into the air slightly. They both kicked like made for shore and were OK but it seemed like the were protecting there territory.

Yup that does not make me want to go into the bay ! Darn Seals

I really get scared when they are the BIG 500lbs ones with huge teeth. I'm sure they just want your fish, so I feel a little better.

Too bad we cannot carry a Seal Club ..

The Marine Mammal Protection Act makes it illegal to have any contact with seals. This means clubbing seals is illegal.

But these Guys can have contact with us ? just hope you don't get a ticket for harrasing a Seal !

I have had on issues yet i think as long as you keep your eyes open you should be able to stay pretty safe. Anything can happen but i think the odds are in our favor for the most part.

Night fishing in the bay gets a bit spooky at times especially when your all excited because you see bait jumping all around you and then you hear that sound of seal.... oh sh#t... he's next to you and feeding on the bait your all alone its 330am and now your paranoid and stressed.. but that last bone jarring strike you missed makes you continue to fish but with your feet up in the air...damn seals see what they started.

Damn seals are a royal pain in the butt. Had one come up right behind me while tubing the Point Loma kelp and snort real loud. Didn't bump me but sure scared the crap out of me.

I have come close to sea lions at NPH they swim around you to check you out and occasionally like to pop up right in front and take a good look at you sometimes even bark!!! Scary stuff. I've heard of one tuber who was dragging a butt he caught in a stringer. When all of a sudden he and his tube were being pulled down by a large sea lion trying to make a meal of the tubers butt. After the quick dunk he pulled the stringer out of the water noticed half his butt was gone. That's SCARY!!!!!

See! This is why you guys need to have oars on your tube lol!

I almost always encounter sea dogs on my trips and most of the time they are devouring fish or searching for them. lol I've had a funny incident with a juvi where I was slowly kicking over to a promising piling, and this little bastid pops up 4 feet in front of me with a short butt'. Damn dog.

For the most part they won't bother you as long as you don't have fish near your tube and you're not in their zone. I've had the pleasure of sitting 10 feet away from a 500lb bull.
