I believe I am not the only one who hates the two foam seat design of the ODC 420. Usually when I tube for a while I get them chaffing in the nether region as sitting still in a compromised position for a while can be murderous there.  Razz

And after a while when I shift positions the foam blocks usually move slightly where one side is higher than the other, thus my butt is not leveled. This can be a problem to one's lower back after sitting like this for a few hours.

So, to fix this I made a PVC frame for the foam blocks to rest on. What you see is four 90 degree 1/2" joints and four 1/2" T joints and 1/2" PVC. I also shaved off about 3/4" or so worth of foam from both blocks. By doing this it makes it easier to slide the foam in followed by this hard frame.

So that seat comes like that from the factory to where it's sliced down the middle? Dang that sucks. It's good to see that you fixed that. I can see that getting really irritating prior to your mod.

Nice idea. I have the ODC 420 as well. I might have to consider this. You're just missing the Siracha on the table. ha ha ha. Love that stuff!

lol. Monterey Park is where the waterfalls are at. Alhambra doesn't have that much.

Yep. During some previous trips when I shifted positions for a moment the blocks would shift and one would be higher than the other.

lol Siracha ain't the best. Tapatio is where it's at! I was using this frame during our meet up at the LAB, and it made the seat a lot more firm and comfortable. No displaced blocks anymore!

You couldn't glue the two pieces together?

I thought about doing that, but I'm sure the glue would give out in the long run. This fix is permanent.

In the last picture, when the seat is installed in the seat pocket, on the pvc frame. Would the seat seam be facing front to back (bow to stern) or side to side (bladder to bladder)?

In addition to solving the foam cushion moving from side to side, in the seat pocket. Does the pvc frame provide enough strength to eliminate the seat foam from sagging, otherwise known as the "taco" effect?

The seat seam sits parallel to the bladders so bladder to bladder I figure. This frame pretty much eliminated the taco effect for me. I'm not a heavy guy 171lbs so these 1/2" PVCs did the trick. If you're more heavyset I'd say up the PVC size.

was it your lower back and hip joint hurting?

It was mainly the hip. When the taco effect takes over my pelvis becomes tilted so my kicks are more focused on one leg, thus the tendon on my hip rubs against my bone. It gets a bit sore after a few hours. This frame solved that issue though.  Very Happy

2 days in a row can be tough! lol cleaning up my tube after the trips is usually what keeps me from doing more than 2 back to back trips.
