Out Friday morning straight from my nightshift with the trout streamers on my local river, a slight rise over Thursday night had brought a nice bit of colour with it, I hit a couple of weir pools and missed a couple of trout in the first fast water weir, the second weir being slower and bigger pools, after going through with the standard drab pattern streamers I switched to something a bit brighter a few casts later a pike appeared right on the end of the retrieve and hammered the small sz2 flash minnow, an interesting battle ensued on my old cane rod that's rated an [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] but is more like a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]/6

Nice catch!

I love the cane rod. I had one once upon a time before the ex-wife. I miss it...I wonder if it remembers me? Sad

Thanx for the report, love the pics!

I had an obsession with cane rods and centrepins a couple of years ago so collected a few, is 8 canes a few? Lol made all my own floats thereafter but they don't come out much these days

No GT an eddy is created by 2 speeds of water as you say which creates one to be pulled round and back upstream, I fish a lot of freestone spate rivers but some are navigable and have weirs built to slow the water above the weir for canal entrances. Some of these weirs there's only a couple of feet difference in water height above and below others are much more on the big river I fish the average height would be 6-8' at a guess.

I have 2 tubes at the moment a basic caddis and an Orvis waterbug. Still looking to upgrade at some point though

The pike came from the slower water to the right (out of shot) of this weir

My local area is steeped in history from the textile industry back in the day, the rivers were said to change colour daily dependent on what colour dye they were using on the cloth at the time, the rivers and canals played a massive part in moving goods in and out. Thankfully there all clean now with an abundance of life

Incase anyone's interested there's a link here with some information on the local history of Yorkshire

Amazing history. It's nice to see that your history has been preserved for future generations. Not so in many places in the states..............Thank you for a peek into your Yorkshire.......GT
