My home waters, Lake Murray, SC HAS been yielding plenty of decent bluegill far this season - my primary target species

Plenty of wildlife part of the game too, from deer and herons, to several large snakes and some big gar!

Still gettin the same wondering looks when in the Cumberland - which often turn ugly when I'm steady catching fish on the fly rod.

Lotsa people go all over the water, fishing.
But tubers gotta work the water in front of them, to the max.

I don't go far, but I'm always on some fish!

Good on you for getting out and catching a few!
Tube fishing is an up close and personal type of fishing, we really need to work an area over because we are not going to travel very far.

We Float Tubers get that 'look' a lot! I've come to enjoy it actually as I see it as an invitation to answer those burning questions they have. Smile

Sounds like Lake Murray is producing well for you. Thanks for the report!

And it's usually peaceful, at least for me.

I have pictures too - but can't get the danged things to load!

Recently, a guy in a big money "pedal" kayak came along.

"Doin any good?..." he asked. "I ain't caught a thing all day. The fish just ain't here."
About that time, a rod bending bluegill grabbed my hand-tied fly and led a merry chase.
"Plenty of these," I said, holding up the hand filling fish. "This is a good spot," I offered. "I always do good here!"
Instead of taking the hint, he pedaled away, muttering about guys in inner tubes and @$!& fly rods...

Watcha gonna do?

I love it man, on a tube you're more free to go where u please. I love that you can inch into spots that not even a boat can get into! And you're more stealthy too

The only break shortcoming I can find with float tubes is their lack of "legs," or, the inability to travel very far.
In theory this is a major hindrance.

But in truth, given a few hundred yards of shoreline, you can probably find all the fishing you need. As you note, getting in tight and working all the pockets is both time consuming, and thorough - and sure to keep you busy!

What I do is work a point; both sides, and the end. Then, I'll move to the next one. Two, maybe three points offers me all the angling I want on any given excursion. Lake Murray is bog (60,000 acres) - this is plenty. LOL
