On a trip to Atlanta, I stopped at Cabela's 'Bargain Cave' and picked up an 11' 8 wt. Cabela's TLr two-handed rod for $21 (regularly $149). Rio's web site recommends a 575 gr./20' short Skagit; I found an Airflo 600 gr./24.5' Skagit Compact shooting head for $20 on EBay (regularly $54.99), spooled it with red 'Amnesia' mono for shooting line, and a furled leader from my spey rod. I couldn't spey-cast worth a darn from shore (kept breaking my anchor), but in the float tube this thing's a freakin' cannon!
Here's hoping I latch onto something big enough for an 8 wt (State record bass; 25 lb. 8 oz., came from our lake).
