As a top water bait. I'm sure our more seasoned veterans have already long made this discovery. However, I just made it last night.
For those that do not know:
4" Ika T-rigged on 3/0 hook. Cast out and instead of letting a full drop only give it a second at most and then 2-3 fast cranks and an occasional pop like you would a popper bait or a jerk bait. The Ika will "hop" out of the water just an inch or so (depending on your technique). You can pause and let it drop and repeat. My impression is that of bait fish the way they will "hop" on the surface at dusk or early morning. No, I did not catch anything. I only fished like this for maybe 20 minutes. But I thought it was neat discovery.
Is anyone else doing this or something similar?
Thanks for looking.
