I got all the way to Oakland and was waylaid by the gods. Went back home, did what I had to do and hit the road, again. I get there with 40 minutes left in the tournamentand parked it in my chair. I leaned over to pick up my knife (Gibbs rule 9, never go anywhere without a knife) and the chair tipped over and in the process of falling out of the chair, my rod was destroyed. I probably could have gotten it repaired but a replacement was $33 shipped so that's ordered, A Daiwa Laguna series rod.
I still have the 40-year-old reel (Daiwa 1300C, yes I'm a Daiwa devotee, don't use anything else).
I sat at the water's edge for about 30 min, watching the smarter, luckier people with their HUGE catches. Then I trekked up to the upper parking lot (I had to do this climb in small increments, I found out just how out of shape I am), I sat there for 20 min catching my breath and looking at a nice overall view). My heart rate was breaking the meter for a couple of minutes but I survived and my wind is better today.
Next time at Pardee!!!
