?Questions?
What do you guys think would a Water Haul Cast work well for a fly fishing float tuber. I read about this in my book and thought hey maybe I need to try this.

It does work . I was trying on Sunday but I needed to have less line in the water since I was using a sink tip line. If the line was to deep it put too much resistance and my fly was getting “stuck” and I couldn’t generate any line speed. If I stripped it in closer I was able to pick it up on my right side and shoot it back to my left side back up current. It wasn’t going to good but I was practicing.

On a side note: I love this guy’s videos and also the series from Mad River Outfitters with Brian Flechsig.

So I got more comments on Facebook about this and other techniques. I will post them here for you and others to see. I will also check out Brian Flechsig as well.

From our Facebook post some good info.

Depending on what you want to accomplish with the cast, like changing the direction, yes it will work. I use sink lines mostly and will do something similar to the technique in the video. I also have a friend who will cast single hand spey style from a float tube. Since you are fishing from a closer to the water position you may need to modify the technique a little bit to maker it work..

I use 10’ fly rods in my float tube for any kind of sinking lines. I also use the high end sinking lines from SA, Sonar Titan. These lines are incredible when pulling up from the water. They almost feel like casting a floating line. I use 8&9’ rods for intermediate and floating lines for better accuracy. At least that’s what works for me flycasting from my tube. I recently purchased the Rio Sinking leaders in different densities and lengths to eliminate carrying intermediate and sink tip rigged rods. I’ve been carrying 4-5 fly rods per outing, should get me down to three.

Sometimes called a roll cast. Works very well in the tube. Have used it after kick trolling a fly if I see fish rising off to the side.

This is on our "Friends of the Float Tube Fishing Forum" Page on Facebook.

Some from Facebook and the Double Haul question.
I use a water haul cast almost exclusively with intermediate line and gain 10-15 yards on my casts.  Works great.  No real need with a floating line and perhaps occasionally with full sink just to get the line away from you.

But if you need a long cast to weary trout, the water haul on intermediate works great!
