Surf Fly Fishing Class

The class covers reading the water and understanding tides, a discussion on species, equipment, casting techniques and line management, as well as wading safety and strategies for a successful outing.
This class is designed to teach the secrets and techniques needed for a successful day in the local surf, which teems with halibut, corbina, perch and other species. The class includes one night during the week, with fishing "on the beach" that weekend.
A few items that are needed for the class: Current Fishing License, Waders, Boots, Leaders, Flies, Waterproof Jacket, Sunglasses, 7 or 8 weight Rod with 250- 300 grain line and a Stripping Basket (please let us know if you need to borrow rod/reel/stripping Basket). All gear required will be covered in the classroom session.

Beginning Fly Tying

That moment when a fish rises to a fly is a beautiful sight; when the fly is one of your own creations, that moment is especially rewarding.
Our beginning fly tying class teaches the skills necessary to immediately begin tying your own flies. With the knowledge of the basic techniques of fly tying learned in class, you will be able to tie a wide range of dry and wet flies on your own! You will also leave the class with a better understanding of insect entomology, which will result in a more effective use of all the various fly patterns.
Patterns taught in the class include:
Griffith's Gnat
Woolly Bugger
Soft Hackle
Pheasant Tail Nymph
Elk Hair Caddis
All fly tying equipment and materials are provided for class use. Class size is limited to six students so you are assured personal attention in a relaxed environment.

Rod Building Class

The basics of fly rod design, handle shaping, reel seat construction, guide wrapping, trim wraps and other fly rod customizing techniques are covered in this class. A rod kit is included in the price of the class. If it's not what you desire, the cost of the kit may be used as credit toward the cost of a blank of your choice. This class is the best way to learn how to build and customize a fly rod to you own specifications.
Included: graphite rod blank, reel seat, cork handle, guide set.
Not Included: thread, finish, epoxy, tools, wrapping stand, finish motor.

Spey Casting Workshop

Whether you’re a newcomer to spey casting or a seasoned veteran you will come away from this class a much improved caster as world famous spey-man Simon Gawesworth takes you through his comprehensive two-day workshop.
The class includes both classroom and on the water “hands on” training where you will be educated on the basic concepts of spey casting, advanced theories, fly line selections, working with both floating and sink tip lines and, of course, instruction on the single spey, double spey, “snap-T” and the snake roll.
