5/21/14 Newport Bay, PB Spotty

Hello All,



Did my weekly trip to Newport    launched at 530ish....went out with 2 buds and SirMIXA

all 3 caught on
Shimano Sienna 2500
Shimano 6-6 Rod, forgot the name lol...
6lbs Ande
2 Mosquito Hook
Bait: Gulp 6 Inch Camo Worm
they had lost their scent so was throwing Hot Sauce on them...that $hit works hahaha

Started the day off slow but as sun set landed 2 a sandy and spotted bay...but the highlight was when we were getting ready to leave i said Let me keep working this  6 inch camo gulp worm when all the sudden i felt a tap and then bam     it started peeling drag like crazy i was like man what could it be...WSB Halibut Spotted Bay Bass heart was sort of racing.......i was on 6lbs test so a bit scared it would tear me off every time i would keep trying to bring it up it would keep taking drafg to go down, lighten up my drag and started just getting it tired and it finally came up  and when it did  it was an 18 spottie...so far my biggest....also got it on the GO PRO Jimmy LOL but this time i forgot a damn light, but my buds shined the light till i landed it....so total 3 with biggest being 18inches...

Good stuff tony. You must've got a workout going up current. I ended up with 6-8 calicos(stopped counting ) and a 2 pancakes. Cali's were 10"-15" and the cakes were around 12". How'd you're buddies do?

Thanks bro and for sure Lolly i watched it last night when i got home...little dark but all good, ill mess with it tonite and hopefully have it by tonite or tomorrow morning..lol...

Hell yeah nice one Tony g. some of my biggest spotties hit like that too a lil investigation bump then a slam nice work good stuff on the light gear too!

Don't know about tony but I was ds pearl and bait colored gulp shads on 8lb fluoro.

Hey jerdon...thx u sir and ur welcome...i was carolina rigged....almost fly lining....6lb ande line on 2 mosquito hook with a 6 inch gulp worm....the split shot about 12 inches above hook.....i use everything else but i seem to come back to this setup and it always pays off.....

I so badly want to try the C-rig in the salt. Every time I go out I just cant find the gust to try something new. Next time I will give it a try, as now I know it works.

Telling u bro i do the same with other rigs and fall back on my for sure carolina rig   ...give it a shot....also doesnt our sponsor make bloodworms with scents?

Im gonna start dropshotting bro i was gona do it yesterday but like jeff said i couldnt pull away from the c-rig...seems to pay off on both fresh and salt...]

I never had much faith in it but with some patience and practice I'm getting the hang of it and it's paying off! Super easy to work and it seems more weed resistant than my weedless swimbaits.
