Hope this is a bit of help to some of you and you guys can score some great deals. I know I talked to some of you about hitting the swapmeets at OCC and Golden West college for fishing and camping gear. But another great spot for finding cheap but high end fishing clothes and who knows what else fishing related are Thrift Stores... try to keep it to Salvation Army and Goodwill as the small independant ones usually don't have anything.

Just as an example last Sunday I picked up a Columbia Omni Gear insulated all weather jacket, a Marmot packable rain jacket and a Port Authority wind breaker from a quick stop at Goodwill all of them in new condition, not a flaw on them. Retail would have been about $175-$200 my cost out the door was $24.
Other things I have found are Caddis FT fins for $5, gear bags for around $2-3, odds and ends for rigging my kayak and float tube in the $1-5 range and most of my fishing pants for $4-6.

I've come across brands from Cabela's, Bass Pro, Land's End, Columbia, North Face, Marmot, West Marine and Carhartt to name a few. Alot of people get company jackets from companies they work for made by top manufacturers, never wear them and just donate them. They work fine as long as you don't mind a company logo on them sometimes.

I believe you get what you pay for in outdoor clothing I just rather spend less so I can buy more tackle! And besides why buy new clothes, any good fisherman is going to just get fish blood, guts and pro-cure all over them... unless your a bad fisherman then you will just get powerbait on them tongue

Can't promise you gold but hope you guys can score some good finds like I have over the years.

Great tip brother. I have also found cool shit at the thrift stores. Stuff you would never guess, like Deer bags, gun holsters, hand gun magazines, bullet loading dies, and a bunch of clothing items, you just have to put the time in and look.

I real do enjoy hitting yard sales for old fishing poles to repair. Most of the rods I use are older rod refurbished, nice to find a rod for $2 and turn around after working on it to make $40 buck. Cool

Actually I hit thrift stores all over from OC and a couple in LA and you never can tell what you are going to find. Not all stuff that gets donated in a certain area goes to those stores. People may donate to the one in Mission Viejo but it gets sorted or sent to a main store and redistributed to other stores. I just bought a Jansport internal frame backpack for $12 incase I ever do a trip and need one, it came from Yorba Linda but ended up at a store near me.

I hit tons of garage and yard sales too, I go on Craig's list every Friday night and look up neighborhood or community ones and if they are in any coastal city and a older community I'm there. Always a good score for bikes, tackle, tools or camping gear. I especially hit the ones in Huntington Beach, 2 weeks ago I scored about 8 pairs of brand new Glacier neoprene fishing gloves and insulated hunting gloves from a guy that used to be a resaler for $2 a pair. And a Coleman perfect flow camping lantern for $5 along with a Coleman multi-fuel lantern for $10.

Oh yeah and swapmeets don't bother going on Saturdays it's all the left over crap from the week before, Sunday is when they get all the new stuff from yard sales they hit on Saturday.

Not to creep anyone out but the down side to getting used stuff is you do run the risk of getting something with bed bugs! So any used clothes go straight into the washing machine when I get home and if it can't be washed it gets put in a palstic bag and set in the backyard in the sun for a couple days to bake anything to death then it gets hosed or air hosed out.

awww bummer! I've had days like that too. I hit the Balboa Island community sale yesterday, walked the whole island and bought nothing but stuff for cycling.
