Yellowtail on the spinning gear, looks like a good time. What was your setup? I can't see the reel well enough.

Good job BTW

I own and use (2) Van Staal V-100's in the surf, mine are both American made before Zebco bought them and started producing them in China.
They have 30 lbs of drag .... my Stripped Bass slayers!

They are 100 % salt water proof and sand proof.

Dang!Van Staal in the house! Seriously best spinning reel. I want the 100 and 150. Florida demands it. and a bag of drag washers.

Hey Pdawg,
Not too many people have heard of it.

Check this out ...
Van Staal says that when you go to break in the drag on your VS reel ...
you need to tie the tag-end of your line to your pickup truck's bumper,
then have your wife get inside and punch the gas pedal all the way down to the floor board for approx 200 feet while you hang on to your rod with the drag setting on your reel buttoned down all-the-way.

This should be repeat if necessary. lol

Just to prove a point ...

I have actually allowed my reel to roll around on the sandy surf's floor (in the skinny), then buried it completely in the sand, then dug it out and shook it ...
walked out into the surf, shook it and rinsed it off in the clean portion of the surf and then continued to fish a 6-hr session. Worked perfectly. No other reel can do this.

It did not affect the VS's performance in any way.

Oh ... and mine are both bail-less! They are reel cool!

What Harbor did you have in mind?

I think Google Earth has done away with "secret" spots, but some are better than others depending on the tides. It's usually an "inner harbor" vs. "outer harbor" sort of thing, in my experience.

SWEET fish Pdawg! WTG!!  Thumbs Up

I'm so jealous!  green happy
I've landed probably 4-dozen WSB in the last 6-years between surf fishing and float tube fishing with my (3) three personal bests taping out at 27 1/2" SHORT!

The legal GHOST is still on my bucket list!

Thanx for your excellent fish report with pic's,

SP Dan     <"))><
