65 year old newcomer to float-tubing. For me, smaller bodies of water will work best. I also want to put a trolling motor on it (smallest I can find) and troll Flicker Spinners. I'll file down the barbs on some where I need barbless hooks. Flicker Spinners are trout KILLERS. I use them to top-line troll and you'd be surprised at the big hits I've had on them. Available at Amazon.com or landbigfish.com.

Hoping to get some info from y'all.

Welcome to the site OldMan!
I would luv to see some pictures of your float tube once you have the trolling motor attached and I like to read some of your fishing reports as well!

Tight lines! Thumbs Up

You shall have them. I'm a pretty primitive fisherman but I'm treating myself to a fish finder (haven't selected, yet). Now I can mock myself.

I used to fly, and fished Eagle Lake, CA, and caught lots of Eagle Lake Trout. My ONLY limit came in 2003 at Eagle. We were in a rented aluminum fishing boat. A local had told me how to beat the guys with fish finders, you take about a #6 hook and put a night crawler on it so there is lots of squirming night crawler, making noise in the water. Then just leave the bail open and wait for the line to start zinging off. Flip bail, set hook and boom, off to the races.

As you know, in a no-wind or very-light wind environment sound travels and as we were leaving, I could hear these guys griping, "How the f-k are they doing it? These guys had *serious* investment in Eagle Lake trout and with our bare-bones setup, we skunked 'em.

On a four-foot Daiwa ultralight rod and matching reel. The reel is 36 years old, the rod maybe 15. I'm in the Bay area, but in a couple years, we're selling all our s-t and buying a used RV (I have done a lot of reading about that too, looking forward to being my own electrical utility (1.5KW solar system into lithium batteries).

Thanks for the reply!
