One of the advantages to being retired is I can go fishing in the middle of the week and not be bothered by the botherers.
Float tube in the middle of Gerle Creek Reservoir (look it up) near Placerville and kinda near Auburn, Foresthill and Georgetown. Three days of trying to catch Brown Trout, and three-four days at French Meadows lake.
Have two ultralight rods, reels, 15-pound braid and four-pound flourocarbon leader. One set up for bait, another for trolling. I have bigger tackle but what I mostly use bigger tackle for is search of much bigger fish.
Bought a bunch of Rapala trout-pattern plugs, floating, sinking, jointed. CDs and at least one ultra-light minnow in two-inch size. I have read about the attracting power of certain Rapala lures, and I'm going to try some out, in Brook, rainbow and brown trout patterns.
It's a solo trip, fishing early at French Meadows, and all day at Gerle Creek.
I have fond memories because when I was young, I was camping at Gerle Creek and took some LSD. Yes, I was born and raised in SF in the 60s and 70s, what did you expect? It was a nice, peaceful trip and I caught a rainbow, though the lake has a self-sustaining population of native browns.
I've never been back. That's about to change. At least three days at French Meadows, followed by three at Gerle Creek.
Anybody been to either of these two places wanna give me the 4-1-1 on these places? Been a LONG time. I'd like to catch and release for the most part but I want to take four home so I hope the fishing is good, right away.
