on 2/24 I took a drive to Nickerson state park. Both Flax and Big Cliff were open. Air temp was a comfortable 47 degrees, water was 36 degrees. Wind was a steady 10mph gusting 15-18mph. I found a bit of shelter in the south west corner of Cliff but it wasn't much, the winds just swirled and blew hard. Not the most comfortable conditions for a tube. Fish were very sluggish. Put in four solid hours, I had a few bumps but nothing more substantial. 2 other flyfishermen I spoke to were also skunked. Hard going for the bait crew too, but I did see one big brown and a decent rainbow taken. Still better than the other options for the day.
Today the air temp was 42, water temp was 39. But the wind was light and variable making for a much more comfortable fishing day.
I chose Flax today, which was very quiet and just enough wind to ripple the surface. One angler throwing a stickbait and a couple of bait guys, didn't see any of them catch anything.
Got one rainbow to make the day special...
