With trout season rapidly approaching in SCAL I've been gearing up to give it a try.  Having grown up in Colorado I found stocked trout fishing in San Diego to be a bit bland, so I have done precious little of it.  In fact, I've done no real trout fishing in California from a float tube to speak of.

Still I've seen guys do well mini-jigging, and it looked like fun, so I've decided to give it an honest try from a tube.  I couldn't afford a Phenix rod, so I bought this 7 1/2' Daiwa Presso, and paired it with a Daiwa QZ750 reel.  It feels really good and balanced in my hand.

I'm  looking forward to the next trip to Oakzanita when I can fish Cuyamaca.   Who knows, I may even dust off the old fly rod and do a blast from my childhood past trip.

Tight lines everyone!

I usually can tube big bear until it ices over.
Thomas boyants, small crank baits (flicker shad), mini jigs with 2# test, slip bobber with power worm usually gets the job done for me.

Thanks for the tips! I grew up float tubing for trout in Colorado, but haven't done so since moving here in 1984. So it's been....what....just shy of 40 years? Yeah watch out trout...I'm back!

Trout fishing is all I do.

Powerbait, worms, grubs, kastmasters, rooster tails.

Flip out PB on a Carolina rig on one side, toss some kastmasters off the other. Ill work a area sitting for awhile before slow trolling to another. Sometimes Ill just kick it slowly around the lake just enjoying myself dragging a crawler or something.

Ultralight, the only way to fish trout!

This summer I picked up a 7' Lamiglas and  Okuma reel. Probably the most expensive rig I have that's not a flyrod. My other rigs are Ugly Stik and Abu Garcia, and Diawa combo setups.

I have a ML and Light setup that I take to Amador. The cutbows (Cutthroat Rainbow hybrids) get huge! I don't get over there much, its mostly wintertime fishing there.

Kokes at Pardee are also fun on ultralight.

Break out the old school tackle that you used to use 40 years ago.
My dad's daiwa 500c, yellow and chocolate sabres from the 80's with original cork that I rewrapped are still in use. as is daiwa Pixy baitcaster from 2004.
Light braid and soft fiberglass is a great combo for launching trout lures.  Just gotta watch out for the ice that can form on the braid in sub freezing conditions.
