Rod Wrapping

so i was on youtube and was looking at rod wrapping and was thinking about trying it out and was wondering if any one had tips like where to start where to buy parts and so on any advice would be great and really apperciated thanks

check out mudhole, they have alot of youtube videos as well.
talk to you jeff and wiseguy as they both do rod wrapping.

As a beginner, I would start out with a non-motorized wrapper
If you are handy, you can build one yourself
I used a homemade one for years, before building a motorized set-up with a long support track
Here's one that mudhole sells for $75

That is a great set up above but I still wrap on my handmade rack hand turned the old fashioned way.

I never could get into the motorized ones and always stuck to hand wrapping.

Best tip I can give you is practice on scrap stuff when you first start using the epoxy resin to coat the guide wraps. Don't just wrap a rod then go to town on it with the epoxy, that stuff takes a bit of practice and alot of patience at first. Sometimes warming it up can get it to flow and smooth better but too much heat can make it cure faster. And make sure you mix both parts equally!!! those little syringes they sell to measure both parts are life savers in the long run.

Used to wrap a long time ago, was pretty good at it, learned from some of the best, Jim Scarlotta, and Doc Labanowski. Have been looking at some of the latest wrapping sites. Brings back memories and makes me want to wrap again!

PS wrapping is not hard, just need to set yourself up carefully. very satisfying catching a fish on something you wrapped yourself!! I can easily advise on how to get started.

Jeff handled my Daiwa Sealine and it came back looking like a new rod! I will have Jeff do my wrapping tasks. I have enough to do these days!

I've been using C&M Tackle for rod wrapping supplies. They prices are fair(way cheaper then save on tackle), and since they're in san dimas it only takes about 2-3days to receive my order.

I buy most of my rod building supplies from BC Distributing in Cypress. I'm sure Brad can set you up with everything you need to get started. I've been wrapping for a little over a year now and trust me, it's addicting! I recommend you check out Bloodydecks, they have an awsome rod building forum that is very active. Just ask and you get your answers quick! I've learned so, so much from that forum is crazy! Also, watch youtube videos, you can learn alot from watching a video.

Mudhole has great videos that show you how to wrap a rod from start to finish. Also on the Batson website there are some very good detailed videos you can learn all the basics.
