no.. ABS has it's own glue.

The ABS is black, so that makes it automatically an "assault" rod rack, according to Obama and Feinstein.. so that's cool. Thumbs Up

The ABS is more rigid than PVC.. I think. I made a wrap-around rack out of 1/2" PVC, and there was a lot of flex. This could be because it was only 1/2" PVC also.. but it does seem more flexible. But, it is also cheaper.

I just got a simple side rack from .:LOLLY:. and it looks great. I just added a fish-finder holder. I'll post up pics of it later.

I'm gonna say its more personal preference. I had abs but I'm now rolling 1-1/4 PVC. For my self I found my rods move around too much inside 1-1/2 abs. I am way more happier with 1-1/4 PVC than abs. When talking the size 1-1/2 between the 2, PVC I think weights more but you can loose the weight by drilling holes.
Cost is about the same. The problem is Home Depot doesn't have a good secetion of 1-1/4 PVC.

For the glue, "YES" abs glue will hold PVC togather for this type of thing but do not use it for fixing a plumbing problem !!
Sorry to bust your bubble Jay but your completely wrong.

Jay, 1/2" PVC is very weak and yes it will flex.

PVC is heavier, but I still went with it because I could not find any 4-way cross pieces in ABS. And, yes, the 1 1/4 diameter is tighter on the rod handle. Here is the simple design I came up with.

BTW, this one was made for a Fish Cat 4. Cost between $20-$25 depending on what you have at home.
