It's all about technique, I tell ya. I was trying to snap my coat shut with one hand while the other hand was holding my rod (but was completely out of control). Suddenly noticed that my rod was bent so I pulled a nice March slab from about 8' of water under 18" of ice. Caught 8 dinky blue gills too, but those were released to grow. Slab was 12 inches. Didn't have a scale, but this one is a personal best by far.

Nice catch and you invented a new fishing style the button jig. Amazing what one can accomplish when one is not paying close attention. cheers

The ice is already out of the lakes out here in San Diego! Cool 15" slabs are being reported! OUCH! Sorry!
