I'm taking a trip to see the grandson the week of the 20th of Oct. and will be stopping at Kaweah Lake, east of Visalia, CA. for a couple of days to fish. Any ideas on how to fish this lake?

the lake is really low right now but the fishing seems to be hit or miss

most bass on ds plastics and cats on nightcrawlers i fished it a month or so ago and got some bites but never hooked a fish

if you going to float tube it i would stay near the marina or try and get over close to the spillway/dam as there is a lot of rocky shoreline on that side of the lake
fish report comes out every friday

Thanks TJ........The guys at the marina said it was low and gave me the different species that the lake has. Won't be tube'n, just check'n the place out and tossing some lures. See if it will be a return trip next spring, not too far from home. Thanks Bro.

OK here's a kicker............Lake Kaweah is Federally operated by Army Corp of Eng. So the lake is closed to all, no shore fishing, boating or tubing. And I'm a Federal Employee, taking furlough to go fishing. Can you beat that? Shocked

Hey Guys,

Here's a bit of a story (legend? myth?) that I have heard more than once about a yearly occurence in the fall at Kaweah.

Apparently at this time of year as in many California reservoirs, the shad population is mature and prepping for spawn and/or the coming cold weather. As the weather cools they school up very tight and near the surface. As you may guess, this can produce some epic topwater fishing. I have heard stories of a surface holdover trout bite that is epic! I have been curious to investigate this story but have not as of yet. Checkit out?
