I like the Velcro on the D ring idea. Clean looking too. Now go get it wet and baptize it with fish blood.

Well.... I took her out today and let myself get skunked. I really didn't get the time in I wanted, but I had a shot at Perris so I went. I met Misfitdog in the parking lot at 6:30 AM, and he put me on top of fish so my bad. The good news is I love this thing, it's like a floating chase lounge compared to my old tube. I weigh 200 + or - and it floats my butt out of the water, I mean my thighs and knees are dry. I was used to being waist deep so this seems luxurious. The rod holder design you guys shared is awesome, three rods no problem.

nice report! from your pics, I dont know if you added two additional bungees from the bottom of the rack to the bottom d rings (since this is the new style cumberland the d rings are on the bottom) for the extra vertical support and keeps the rack nice and straight. Because once you sit in it on the water that rack will tend to go inward. The two bungee straps at the bottom fix that problem. Ask LOLLY on this site to load a pic if you need one.

wiseguy,
I didn't add the bungees and I figured there was a learning curve on that. Once my big butt hit the water they did tip in a bit, however it seemed rock solid so I was happy with them like that. I'm going to run it as is a few times to get a base line. I was just so pleased to have 3 rods stashed so solid.
Wes, next time I'll remember my vest and head to the island.

The Velcro attachment hangers are ideal.

I made a little addition after a few test runs.
Added a fourth rod holder and added a 45 degree to the trolling rod holder. I feel a bit piggy with all this swag, but it fits comfortably and gives me instant access to my favorite set ups.

Where did you happen to get the Velcro straps?

That is an awesome setup, and simple.

Catman1979,
The Velcro is from a roll of double sided tape l was given years ago, no idea where that one came from. I have seen it at Harbor Freight Tools, in black, and heard you can find it at Walmart.

and thanks, it was just a lucky idea

I got some velcro straps at Harbor Freight, they were black and does not appear to be as good as what is shown in the pictures.

Here is a pic of what is left of the roll. Maybe someone will recognize it?
This stuff is pretty tough, I'm thinking as strong as the plastic D-Ring
Hope it helps.

Nice, it's even in Bronco's colors!!!!

Hope it's stronger then their offense was in the Super Bowl?

You could use some scotch tape and it would be tougher then Peyton was that day Smile

I thought I would add to this old thread.
I have had this tube for 4 years now and it is still kicking around just fine. A few modifications and small repairs as time went on, but I am pretty happy with the Cumberland.

The rod rack evolved to hold a fish finder.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Then I added a Rapid Release holder for my trolling set ups.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Next I needed a place to keep my camera and net.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

And of course a bump board for the pics

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The end result is a very nice fishing machine. Some what heavier than it started, but I have everything I need for a day on the water.

I am still very pleased with this toy and would recomend it to others.

Nice setup!. As soon as I finished mine, I started thinking about how to change it Very Happy . I like the tool holder...that will probably be my next mod. In the future, I'd like to add a fish finder also.

It has been 5 years since I bought this tube and it is still fishing great!

I have made no changes to this system in the last year. However, I have had a few issues with my zippers popping open or getting stuck, especially when I overload the side pockets. I read a few places online on how to "adjust" the zipper with a vice grip or needle nose pliers. By pinching the zipper and making it snugger on the track it works like new again.

I suggest a regular waxing of the zippers and not trying to test the pockets limits for a long tube life.

Here is a link to zipper repair.

I hope this helps.
