One day a couple of years ago, I was feeding my Granddaughter in her high chair, when an idea struck me. What if I had a plastic tray in my lap, instead of nylon apron that keeps getting treble hooks caught in my lap. I searched the garage and found that a drill bit set I had 12"w X 20" L had a clear plexiglass lid with about a 1/4" lip. Bingo!!
Took the lid off flipped it upside down,  drilled some holes and attached some small bungees to the front(to wrap around the lap bar) 2 small holes in the rear, cut my apron off the bar, attached the rear bungees to the new lid, and Presto!! Best apron ever! I also drew on a tape measure with a sharpie.
Now when I change lures, or release a fish it's not laying in my lap, or getting tangled in the mesh. Trust me, If you try it, you'll never go back to a mesh apron again

That sounds like a good idea can you post a photo?
I'm picturing something like the food trays in a fast food establishment.

I'm not very savvy with a computer, I don't even own a cell phone, but I'll see if I can have my son take some pics this year when a set up my tube
Yes, seems like a mcdonalds size tray might work the same, might be able to buy something like that at GFS or Costco

Kinda like the strap trays and stripping baskets some fly anglers use.
I've seen those with a curved rear section, made to nest close to the body.
Great idea!

Keep it small though, to big and becomes a hassle getting in and out

I was at lowes this weekend and had the idea of using a plastic lid from a storage container I saw and taking the plastic legs off the mesh apron and attach them to the plastic lid it seems like a great idea within the next couple weeks I'm gonna tackle that project and will post pics for you guys!
