So my wife and i had someone to watch our boys for a couple hours so we walked to our local lake to fish for a bit and she got to use her new setup (thank you shimano).

So we were fishing for a while walked about half way around the lake and im using a new berkley jig i just got and i get a little snag reeling it in and then i get it closer and its loose so i know its trash or something. yep its a ball of line lol.

So as i am grabbing the line off the hook my fingers are a bit wet and

First your wife went with you.. Hoot!
Second she pushed the button. Mine would have been to busy holding her stomach from laughing so hard.
Yep, I just checked my right thumb. Nice little dimple that be with me forever thanks to that very thing.
Might be time to learn to cast right handed because that's gonna sting for awhile. My hand hurts just looking at it.

My brother did the same thing last summer, I had to cut the treble hook with some diagonal cutters, he said that hurt worse than pulling it out THE experts say to push it all the way through, and cut off the barb. YEAH RIGHT! My bro said, so he took a splinter out tool and slid it in behind the barb, It pulled right out, Keep a pack of splinter outs in your tackle box, all first aid packs have them.

Ooohhhh, ouch! We were fishing at the colorado river and my dad decided he wanted to try a lucky craft. He jerked it back to hard when he thought he got a bite and it flew back and 2 trebles lodged in his leg. Getting hooked sucks!

At Sante Fe damn about 20 years ago me and a buddy of mine went and hiked over to the West side. We found a nice spot between some trees. We had to crouch over to get to the shore but there was a nice open area maybe 6 feet or so across there and about 3 feet back.
I had already put my box down and was determined to get the big one out there.
I threw a nice big spinner, double blades, big ass hook, pretty white tail.
I drew my arm back to cast and damn it! Stuck in a tree! But it wasn't a tree.

It was stuck in the back of my buddies skull!
Luckily skulls are thick and hard because I was thinking it was a tree branch so I just yanked real friggin hard on it.
I stopped when I heard the screaming, realized what had happened and fell down laughing.
Bad friend I know but it was FUNNY!
Then I got up to help, still laughing I fell in the water.
Got up again and yanked that thing out of his head.

I blamed the whole thing on him. Don't stand behind someone who is casting stupid!
Yes, we got skunked. lol

Fishing is not supposed to be this painful but looks good to me.
Really don't see the difference between that and grabbing a pair pliers and yanking on it though.

Two differences:

1. Someone else is doing it.

2. The unfortunate person is providing downward pressure, disengaging the barb of the hook.

There are youtube videos of people yanking with pliers and then crying out in pain, with the hook still in place.

i tried a couple different things to get that hook out and nothing was working. when we finally did get it out it was bent outward which had it snaged on some tissue. once it was numbed i even tried it some more and it wasn't working. so the dr cut my finger a bit and after about 20 minutes of adjusting it came out.

but my finger is good now. i got some tough skin so for it to be bent i say i feel a bit for the bass we release. everything meh it dies haha. but yah im good casting with my finger wont be a issue i dont feel anything right now. but yah definiltly lucky my wife was there to help since i had zero hands at the time haha

Just a tip for you, this doesn't work with a lucky craft! Lol, you should have heard him yell when he tried it! We just ended up pushing the hooks through and cutting the barbs off.

I have never had a hook stuck in my hand where you would be able to push it through without going through bone so that concept is lost on me.
I'm going to roll with yank, cry, bleed and cast.

I tie flies, and the first step in the work is to crush the barb down with needle nose pliers.
Well, in the last week I've gotten three hooks in me for various reasons. This is weird, because in years of fishing I can't recall it happening so often.
But all three came right out, with just a tug.

A little blood, a little cussing, and back to fishing.

Do I lose fish, without the barb? Not that I can attribute.
Maybe it's something you all will want to experiment with.

Something on your mind lately? Need to get new glasses?
Why would you stick yourself all the sudden so frequently?
