I'm thinking of buying a Colorado XT pontoon boat for use with a trolling motor but have read some reviews that say that you need to position the seat forward as a counterweight.  I'm concerned about how much of an issue the weight of the motor & battery really is to the performance of the boat.  If anyone has any experience with this I'd really appreciate their input.  Thanks!

Not much of an issue! I have a group27 battery, trolling motor, FF battery, lunch box, rods/reels, a gallon of water and all my tackle strapped to the battery/cargo deck and the counter weight issue, or any issues for that matter is pretty minute.
If you start to lose air in the pontoons, youll know right away, because the air will first escape from the rear part of the pontoons (where most of the weight load is), and the front will start to stick out of the water first.
As far as performance, I think having all that weight is good, the prop blades stays submerged when crossing wakes.

As far as repositioning the seat, its a personal preference. I only had to adjust my seat maybe a couple inches.

You know, in mine I feel like there is a bias. It isn't much but it is there. 27M battery and trolling motor. I use a ten pound anchor off my aft, and keep it on my port side bladder. I have my motor on the OE side (starboard) with one of the tackle bags under it. The battery is on port side.

For the most part, mine just tracks strange and needs constant tiller adjustment. I think I may have to rethink how I am doin' it. The forward/rear seat adjustment is pretty straight forward though. I am a big dude, so mine is set forward all the way, and in that respect is balanced. I think if I redo my anchor system and place my anchor on the starboard side, that it will be better, but then again harder to work with the rope on that side.
