I request for a little bit more help. Please and thank you.

Hey guys. I'm going to save up for a really good rod and reel, I'm hoping to have around $480 by the time I can start fishing again. I really want an awesome saltwater spinning set up. I would prefer to have it around 7'' to 9'', and I don't have much preferences for reels, as long as it's excellent. Please and thank you.

7" and 9 " .. that is a challenge indeed ..

or did you mean 7' to 9'? As for rods, I myself am a Phenix guy. All the different types of rods they make are awesome, strong, powerful, light, and very durable. What type of action are you looking for in the rod? and as for the reels, Shimano reels are excellent, What type of fishing are you looking to do TheFishingMusician?

A bit hard to say...kind of fish u targeting.....for me....I use a 6-6 rod with a 2500 shimano sonora and 10lb test....that for me covers lakes for LMB and salt for spotties sandbass and some small halibut....but it all depends....my 2500 sonora was first rig with 10lb test and till this day thats my go to....hope this helps..

TheFishingMusician what type of fish do you plan on targeting? Where do you plan on fishing?

First question: I'll be targeting salmon, rockfish, and small to medium-small halibut. Second question: In any of the lakes I can get into to, Whittier, Homer, and Seward. Also yes, that did help. I might go down to the lower 48 to fish next year or the year after that one. I don't know what to expect in Boston, Massachusetts or Ventura, California.

man you are looking for something with such a wide varierty its crazy!! but if you want something that will get those big rock fish up along with handling lmb you wont really find a good medium. Espically if you hit a big halibuttttt it will just break you off.

for light weight that will handle rock fish and halis but be a little big for fresh water stuff would be

because if you will be in ventura, you will be fishing salt water and same with boston. If you do end up fresh water fishing i would just grab something local and cheap and it will do the job. but that terez and thunnis would be the best bet for close to your price range. the thunnis is a beast of a real and the terez is also a monster rod. good quality stuff. i am a shimano/gloomis guy so.

FishingMusician, I guided you to the setup for salmon and inshore in your other post.

OK, sounds like you want to do a lot with only a single setup.
On that note, salmon fishing in general branches out to a few different setups from hot shotting to mooching to even trolling.

I assume you'll be fishing from a boat to keep things simple. A good old fashioned small swimbait stick something along the lines of 3/4 to 3oz paired with a 300-400size casting reel would keep things light and fun. You can toss small jigs up to 4oz to jig for rockies and the occasional small halibut. You can forcefully toss 3/4oz flying Cs in the rivers and you can even bead with it. You need to remember to back off the drag to prevent hooks from tearing out when targeting salmon. You could mooch with it too, but the rods faster action might work against you in keeping the fish pinned.
It's just really difficult to steer you the right way unless you give us more information on how you want to target your fish and by what means are you going to fishing (boat, inflatable, shore). Hope I helped narrow it down.

Thanks. I will look around and see if I can find anything good. I plan on using the spinning rod for inshore fishing, but now that I think about it I probably need a offshore rod if I am to go fishing on a boat for sharks or big halibut. Thanks again
