Help With Fish Finder Doing Double Duty Between Pontoon And Float Tube And Seat Position When Using A Trolling Motor

Hello everyone I've been a member a few months and have just been reading so this is my first post.

So I have a Cumberland Float and a Colorado XT pontoon. I'm very happy with the float, the only thing I've added to it was a Scotty rod holder.

I do have a couple issues after using the pontoon though. I find the fixed seat almost useless with a trolling motor. I felt so awkward trying to reach back to control my direction of travel. I know there are mods for making a swivel seat but. I decided to keep it simple so I ordered the swivel base from Classic Accessories that they have on the new XTS. My concern though is if the swiveling chair will make using the trolling motor allot easier or is it still awkward?

My other question is that I'm looking for a fish finder that I can easily move between the pontoon and tube. I've looked at a few options but the one that looks the easiest and most reasonably price option is the Hummingbird Piranhamax [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Does anyone have experience with these? If so will it be easy to move from float to toon? Any complaint or better options?

Thanks

As far as I know hummingbird has always been a great product, but as far as entry level goes the Lowrance models are pretty good as well. I would wait as more people will more then likely way in on this but I think if you go with the hummingbird you should be happy for a starter. Oh and welcome to the forum. salute

Welcome to the forum SIGSAUER!
I have no experience with the 197c, but I expect it is fine, a step up from mine. I have a Hummingbird 120 and nothing could be simpler to mount back and forth. Basically a cup holder will do the trick.
Here is a link to my report.

Thanks for the welcome and recommendations. I made the seat modification this week, I haven't tested it on the water but just trying it in the garage I think it will be a huge improvement. Once I decide on a fishfinder I will be ready to try to catch something.

Just wondering if you have looked at fishfindermounts.com Wade is a great guy with a very sweet set up for fish finders on foat tubes and kayaks. Check it out for yourself, might be an option for you as well.

I have and they do look nice but looking at the price plus the cost of even a cheap fish finder I think I could get one of the portable units for a bit less. It's not off the table but I am trying to keep this reasonable as possible.

Sigsauer,

Just a couple of thoughts, not exactly addressing your points...but pretty close to them.
With the Colorado XT Pontoon, I would leave the motor at home. With motor and battery, everything is so much heavier, and it's just more "stuff" to haul from home to your fishing site.
The oars will work great. You will move quietly on the water, and will not be twisting your back to deal with the motor.

I second the idea of contacting Wade at Float Tube Fanatics. He has got a great product and is very helpful.
