Micro Guides on baitcasting reels

What's the deal with tiny "micro guides" on baitcasting rods?  Are they used to make the rod lighter?  I think they look better than the standard baitcasting guides.  Anyone have rods wrapped with these guides?  If so, what do you think about them?

I have one rod with the micro guides.
The sales point was lighter weight and, since the guides are closer to the rod, more sensitivity.
This is 7' 3" rod that is fairly stiff for heavy cover initially. I have caught LMB and Calico with it.
I cant really say it is "more" sensitive, but it is certainly not heavier.
I would recommend it and I would buy another one.

I like guides that are smaller than the regular size but the micro guides are too small for my liking. Micro guides make it difficult to run the line through them when you're bobbing around in the tube.
