Back from my week away with the family to the lake district, what a glorious week it was, fairly settled weather and not too much rain.
The plan was to get up early and have a couple of short 2 hour sessions on the tube to try bag a pike or two.
Monday overnight temperature dropped to 2deg Celsius and I awoke to crisp white grass, it was only a 5 min walk down to the launch from the gypsy caravan we were staying in and before long I was ready to paddle out to look for water around 15-25' deep, I've been having bother with the lowrance giving me false readings so spent time trying to get that sorted but in the end gave up and fished blind. No pike were forthcoming however I sat through an epic sunrise and could feel the heat of the sun on my face

After walking with the family a few times along the shore I spotted what looked like a pike roll so made a mental note of its,position for the next time out, it tied up roughly with an underwater reef that just broke the surface and was marked with a flag on top to prevent boats hitting it.
Thursday morning came and I'd switched the position of the transducer on the Wednesday night in hope it might make a difference, I walked further to launch this time so set off and arrived before first light.

Dropping the transducer arm over shallow water it seemed the lowrance was giving me the correct depth reading so headed out to the left of the reef where I missed a pull from a pike after half an hours fishing b#####[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.],

no further action so decided on a paddle to the top of the reef and trying a fly coming from deep water up over shallower weeds which worked as a small pike came cartwheeling out after a short fight it was chinned and photographed I was over the moon to land one

The wind then picked up so I paddled to the back of a point to take a bit of respite, the lowrance was definitely working as it picked up every kick of my fins on the top of the screen

I was also finding ledges/drop offs, weed banks and gulleys so it seems I now have a reliable sounder, however all too quickly my fishing time was over and it was time to enjoy quality family time.
