Need some help with new Rankings

We have had some rankings for a while now. This is what shows up under your Avatar to show you how much you have been posting. The more you post you move up in ranking. Right now it goes:
Newby
Bobber
Junior
Senior FTFF Member
Team Poseidon

So what do you think we should add or change post it up thanks.

Just how many postings at each ranking; will be required, in order to move up to the new higher ranking Jeff? I like it!

I like Midshipman over middleweight but that's just me. lol I like the way it sounds.

Personally I don't understand the whole ranking thing. If you are a new forum member, maybe have a period where it shows they are new. Once they have been here for a period of time, the whole newbie/rookie/bobber thing should just go away. We are all anglers and we all love to float tube and is he reason we are here in this forum. I know I appreciate all the hard work Jeff puts into running this forum. This whole ranking thing to me really makes no sense. When did how many posts you have dictate who you are? Some times it feels like a popularity contest to see who has the most posts to boot your rankings? I can understand if the moderators would like to keep track of your post numbers and involvement. I just feel this whole ranking thing should not really apply. You could be here for 8 years and still be a 'Bobber'. How does that make a angler feel? Sometimes, I think certain anglers don't post or want to chime in because they feel they are a 'bobber'. I am a part of several forum based groups from fishing, to cars, to boats, to cinematography, to aircrafts to surfing. None of them have a ranking system. Anyways, just my 2 cents.

Hey does anyone else feel the way volcomsurfrider feels. The ranking is nothing bad just away for you to know where you are in posts. I will post the numbers of posted needed to move to the next spot. It was never meant to discourage members from posting but i guess i could see how that could happen.

I can say when I started on this forum you were having a series of contests and gave away stuff from our sponsers. To qualify to win prizes members needed to have a minimum number of posts. I wanted in on the contests so I made a goal to participate every day to meet the minimum as soon as possible.

So for me it was the opposite of volcomsurfer. However, I would like to see how many posts/points are required to advance. I used to check the other members status and posts to figure it out.

I didn't mean the ranking system is a bad thing. I just didn't see what the point is for anglers to have to post a certain amount of times to justify who you are? I'm not trying to stir the issue here. This was brought up by Jeff and I chimed in. So to qualify for a give-away or a contest, you have to Have X number of posts? Yes I get that prizes want to be given to the right people. Wait.. isn't that what Prizes are? To be given to winners without gender, rank, or # of posts? I can see you all are a tight group of a few tubers. That is awesome! I just don't see how # of posts justifies who you are or your ranking in fishing.

I know you are not tring to stir up stuff this was posted to see what people see. As for what Jerdon said yes we did that at the start and it was a way to encourage people to post. We do not do that anymore but still i want members to fill comfirtable to post. What jerdon is dicussing did work then when we where just starting out. Please know that is not our M.O. anymore.

Maybe attach timelines as well.

This way time and participation on the forum are represented.

I like many other really enjoy reading this forum. Maybe the time frame as a member her is a better idea like Jerdon said above. Many probably have been here years and just do not post as much as still are listed as 'Bobber'. Either, great place here to talk fishing and we appreciate all you do!

Ok so we are going to post up soon what post number reached moves you to the next rank. I will also look into can this be based off of how long you have been a member vs how many posts. Our main goals are always to make members feel included and invitingvto post. We will work this ranking and I hope we can make it work if not we can always pull it. Thanks for the input everyone please keep it coming.

I always thought that all of this was just in fun and that it was also a simple way to keep anglers involved in communicating and posting up their fish reports w/ pic's in order to excite others in getting involved in our sport. It was always so simple.

Jeff ... I personally don't mind keeping it the way that you had originally designed it.
The wonderful thing about the country that we all live-in is .... is that there is a website to fit everyone's personal needs out there and I like this one the way that it is!

It is never wrong to re look at things as sometimes they need to change. Thanks for all the input i will get back to everyone soon with some info.

Here is what we have currently, I do not see an option for running it by time as in how long you have been a member. The only option is by posts I will keep looking. Maybe we need to add a few new ranks and simple make the Newby and Bobber and Maybe Junior ranks that are moved through quick like Newby 0 - 24 Bobber 25 - 49 and Junior 50 - 99
So maybe we add say 2 to 3 more ranks and make those spread out more I am thinking Senior FTFF Member so be the top level just my thoughts. Let me know what everyone thinks, thanks guys.
