As many of you know, the current at the HH coast highway bridge is always deadly. Basically the whole harbor is filling and emptying through that narrow gap.

For the same reason, it's an excellent place to fish!

I saw a 'yaker that was anchored there just killing it and I did my best clinging to the rocks, but I think I could have done better from a better location.

So.... anchor? Does anyone have recommendations?

I'm thinking a 3.5 lb folding kayak anchor...

I have a yak anchor and have only used it at Newport, but it works well!

There is always a sack filled with rocks and a length of rope very simple and seems to work great plus you fill it up when you head out in the morning.

Thanks! I figured it didn't need to be very heavy.

Thanks, mthaubs!

I ended up filling a small canvas bag I had on hand with some cement and it looks like it's going to do the job.

There have been a few times in the past that I wished I had an anchor, so it's a good option to have with me even if it is more stuff I'm dragging along. Smile

Well Bob I have 2 anchors, one I bought at Bass Pro, $30 if I remember correctly and the other a Fisherman gave to me one day while out tubing.

The BP anchor is heavy and made from cast material, has a sliding mechanism that deploys the 3 hooks. This puppy is bulky and I have a 50 foot rope and chain attached. Used during fast moving tides and or strong winds. Works very well.

The freebie anchor is made of machined aluminum and is very light. Has the sliding collar that locks open the hooks as well with a 30 foot rope. Works well when you want to stay in place on an average day of fishing HH. I use it most of the time when I want to take a break from kicking, have a bite to eat or even a nap.........GT

Thanks, GT! I appreciate your help.

I remember you mentioning that you used an anchor sometimes and I can definitely see the advantage. Especially at HH, where even when the tidal coefficient isn't that high, the tide can still really move.
