I always wonder about float tubing the south that my sister and husband live in Mississippi which we fish there a lot on the boat I wanted to float tube there. Being an Illinoisan and feel too uneasy to do one when I have seen too many water snakes and those biggest snapping turtle and giant gars that would make me do the fins in the air!!!

Hi ya Bluegillman,

I think I would really be apprehensive about dangling my feet and legs in some of the southern waters myself ... especially after reading about what you have encountered and mentioned.

I believe that I’ll just stick with SoCal’s whales, seals and sea turtle populations. lol I’m still learning to get used to them.

Ignorance is bliss. As kid in Florida, my brother and I waded the ponds with reckless abandon. Never encountered a Gator there; but plenty of snakes. Fortunately, they want to avoid you as much as you want to avoid them.

Back in Florida in the 1940s, before endless development, there was space enough for all.

Plenty of Gators other places; but we gave them a wide birth and they were usually napping. I knew guys who robbed Gator eggs from nests (or whatever they are called). I assume they made sure that Mom was away first. Apparently there was a market for them--don't know why.
