Solo Session At LAH, 06:00 hrs until 11:00 hrs
The bites were few and far in-between. (10 fish in 5 hours).
The up side is that I did land a legal Sandy and I had my 2nd encounter with a swimming whale in LAH.
My Session Summary: I was focusing on my fishing in the massive kelp bed and all-of-a-sudden I heard this HUGE AIR BLOW from behind me, I was surprised and I panicked a bit because I knew that it had to be either a Dolphin or a very large bull seal. Seals just freak me out! ... so I quickly turned around to look behind me; over my shoulder, and it was TOO CLOSE and it was HUGE! what ever it was! At first glance I thought that it was the biggest bull Harbor Seal that I've ever seen; so I yelled "ARrrrrggg seal ... GET OUT OF HERE"!!! ... and ..... WHOA! WAIT A SECOND! my brain kicked in ...... IT'S A FREKING WHALE!! ... breaching less than 100 ft behind me! It was already starting it dive and it's tail raised up into the air; 6-8 ft above the water surface, and it's massive tail was no less that 8-9 ft across. WOW!!
I was hoping it would hang around; so I tied off on the buoy that it passed next to, so that I could get a picture of it when it circled around again but instead it swam-off further away and all that I could see at this point was it blowing air & water approx 25 ft into the air. I ended up watching it from a distance for about 10 minutes as it swam away.
WHAT A BLESSING!
Note to self: Change pants when I get home! lol
