Hey guys! I wanted to get into float tube fishing. I’m from Orange County ca. Where can I float tube fish around here? And what kind of gear would you recommend? Thxs!

Welcome aboard Andyman, I’m glad you were able to find us.

If you plan on fishing the saltwater inner harbors of OC, you have Huntington Harbor and Newport Harbor in your back yard.

There are lots of different float tubes out there and my personal preference is the Classic Accessories Cumberland Float Tube. You will need an air pump to inflate your tube.

You will need fins. There are many fins out there on the market ranging from very $ inexpensive to what would be considered $ expensive like Force fins.
My personal preference are the force fins.

To fish in these harbors, I wouldn’t go with gear any heavier than what you would normally use to fish freshwater LM and SM Bass. I personally go a bit lighter than most others when it comes to gear.

Please, try to do your first couple of float tube sessions with an experienced tuber for safety and for shared experience.

I look forward to reading all about your maiden voyage! Thumbs Up

I’m certain that you’re going to have a lot of people chiming in to tell you what they use in order to help you.

Have fun!

SP Dan     <“))><

Welcome Andyman.

I just got into floating about 2 years ago, it's amazing! Fairly new to the forum myself. I recommend you poke around through all the different discussions and topics. There's a wealth of info in here and some very friendly people willing to answer your questions.

Welcome aboard Andyman.......Dan has some good advice, but I would also consider your size, weight and your height. I started out 7 plus years ago and had a donut for a first tube. Then a Cumbie, Super Fat Cat and now a Savage gear 170. Of course you graduated up in cost to. But you need to fit your tube to you or you won't feel confident/comfortable. Storage is a big factor, how much gear and the weight involved. Do you need an inflatable seat. In my case yes, I get but burn on solid foam.
I'm using dive fins, I like them.
Ozark pump from Walmart is a good inexpensive pump.
Waders in the winter.........a lot of guys have two tubes, maybe a trial to find your tube, good luck, tight lines...........GT
