Went to my “home” bay again this morning. Launched around 5:45AM from Mothers Beach. Tide was outgoing so I headed south (right). Saw another tuber (Sergio?) fighting a plump spottie under the 2nd street bridge so I knew there were probably more fish lurking below. Caught a couple in the moored boats near the yacht club then kicked across the channel. While crossing I trolled a swimmie and about two thirds of the way across something big and strong picked it up. Peeling line, bending rod! A big halibut? Um, no. You guessed it. A ray. I was surprised that my leader held (and the knot) because, when I finally got him close enough to see, he was big (probably 3 foot wing to wing). I had no choice but to cut the line. He had long tail/stinger.
Went into the boat docks and hooked several nice spotties. Here’s a couple pics, including today’s best-producing lure. Ringed worm swimmie with a corkscrew underspin flasher...
