AND ... HERE IT IS FOLK'S .... ANOTHER ... ONE OF THOSE ...
"THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY STORIES! HA HA HA!
So ... I'm all-out of fishing-time and must start heading-back home for today's scheduled Doctor's appointment.
I finally finished kicking back; to being in-front of my launch site again, with 10 minutes still to spare.
Man-O-man ... what-ever should I do now??? ... I say's to myself! lol
Well folk's! ... that means ... ten more minutes of fishing in my books ... YAHOO!!
So I see where 5 my minutes of kicking and fishing has gotten me, so sadly .... I turn-myself-around and I commence my final kick, back in the direction of my launch and to end today's session, to break-down my rods and begin to stow my equipment away for portage.
(Side Note) I was taking a mental moment (vacation) to reflect on a few of my previous discussions with others ... Jerdon for one, Jerdon's written words to me and of the spoken words of the fellow' that actually owns the ship where I was fishing and catching today ... they both suggested to me that I:
"spend more time ... fishing in the launch area"!
So with only two minutes left to go (10:58 hrs) on the clock .... BAM!!! ... It Happens!!
I get SLAMMED in about 11' of water, in the muddy-flat in front of the jetty's rock-foot-print .... wait for it (Jerdon) .......
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I was dragging a 5/8 oz Silver Green/Silver HUB Dead-man while it was securely-held in-place inside my DIY 1.5" swiveling ABS rod holder.
The mysterious fish had "set" it's self on the hook and was pulling hard and ripping line off my reel!!
I reeled-it-in quickly, up to about 5 feet of water (about half way up) when it absolutely EXPLODED!
Mean while ... I frantically to get my other lines out of the water, cleared and stored out-of-the-way for the up coming battle!
At first I thought that it was one of those 4-5lb "home guard" Bass! ... but NOPE, it was TOO strong! ... Perhaps it was one of those Bat-rays ...... but NOPE ... it kept stopping and it kept changing directions until it began to circle swim as it showed tale signs of it tiring!
...................
THEN! ... IT put it's head shakes and power runs together for one of those famous Halibut BATTLES ... that you read about!
My Jaw just .... Dropped!!
Note: While I was stowing my gear this fish had turned-me a 180 deg turn, then back-and-forth 180 deg two more times.
I knew then and there that I had something really huge and heavy buttoned-on, so I loosened my drag; just-a-bit, and I thoroughly enjoyed the strength of the fish and it's multiple line-ripping runs for the next couple minutes before it actually exhausted it's-self-out to where I could get it calm enough to lay on the water's surface; flat in-front of my knees, in order to get a photo of the time on my watch; in the photo, showing the Halibut and the correct time (a great last-cast Kodak moment!) when .... DANG!!
OH NOoooo! ..... he stopped pulling, the line went slack for that very brief moment ... as the hook unbuttoned it's self from the enlarged worn hook-hole from battle ....
Well folk's ... that fish was lucky today, it won the battle and it's freedom ... until we meet ... next time!
Take a guess folk's to where I'll be wetting my bait tomorrow! Ha ha ha!
So here's my only pic's of my (minus one) Halibut, it measured in front of me to be a 27"-28" Halibut, this would have been my 9th (photo'd) legal Halibut landed this season.

Thanx for checking out my fish report,
