OK so there is a lot I have not caught but I was just reading a book and came across a chapter of the Artic Grayling.  This is a fish I have only seen in picture and read about in stories now.  Its a fish I have not caught and hope to someday get the chance to catch.  Even thought they are not a big game fish, they don't grow huge or fight hard, just to say I have caught that would be pretty cool.  I mean look at it kind of alien looking wouldn't you say.

So what is it you have not caught and maybe hope to catch in the future.

From a float tube specifically? It would be a White Sea bass. I’ve caught some nice ones off shore on boats but a Ghost on the float tube , even a short one, in one of the bays would be awesome. Overall ? A golden trout. The ones you have to hike for in the upper elevations of the eastern Sierra. Like the Grayling not huge but would be neat to say I caught one.

I got a WSB this year for the first time it was way short but a cool catch. A golden trout would be cool for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Here is another one I have not caught and now am interested in catch. Even on a fly rod this would be a blast the Carp.

Carp on the fly would be a run for your money. Anything with that size and strength on light tackle. Wow.

Adding to my list of not caught fish that catch my attention the Bonefish.  Funny or odd enough they can be found from Peru to San Francisco Bay.  Yep here is Southern California, lets go get some..... Wait where are they.

I’ve heard there have been some caught in Huntington Harbor. Often they get confused with Corbina but there is a difference.
Corbina on the float tube and/ or on a fly rod would be wild as would a bones fish.

I haven't tubed for several years now, unfortunately. My brothers aren't into it any more, so I don't even bother taking a tube when we hit the Sierras (I'm going to the next time we go).

Being an avid fly fisher, I prefer stream/river fly fishing, although I have fished many lakes with a fly rod. I'm always looking for different types of trout, but will fly fish for anything fresh water that I can (pike - oh yeah!).

The next trout I'm hoping for is a Gila trout (AZ or NM). We'll see if and when I can get there.

If you're in So. Cal. and want grayling, you don't have to go that far. Utah is the ticket and I'd recommend the Boulder Mountain area south of Loa. 4WD is a necessity and a local guide is a good idea (The Quiet Fly Fisher in Loa). You can also get some beautiful cutthroats, tiger trout and splake. Loa is about 9 hours from north OC and an easy/picturesque drive.

Golden trout - I've caught lots over the years. The easiest place to get them (drive, anyway) is to the Mammoth Lakes area. A drive up the 4WD only road to Laurel Lakes and you might get some. Float tube this one. There are some very large goldens in there - I've seen them pushing 18". 6 hours from the OC.

Thanks for the tip here . We have been thinking about the cottonwood lakes hike someday. Or even somewhere around Kennedy Meadows ( but these aren’t a true Golden). We fish the Mammoth area frequently so I will look into Laurel Lakes, Thanks

If you want some big cuts that are the only fish in the lake - go to Walker Lake, Nevada.  About 9 hour drive.  It's an alkali (spelling?) lake that these trout have managed to survive in.  I used to tube it once a year at the end of March or early April.  We've had stringers of 15 (3 fishermen) with the smallest around 2# and the largest 4#+.  Flies or Thomas Bouyants.

Floating any one of the jetties would be my guess. Perhaps off Cabrillo and make that kick to fish the wall? Dana Pt would be a second guess since i've gotten a few baby cabezon off the rocks there years ago.

I'm still hoping for coastal cutthroat (North Umpqua), I've landed red band rainbows from there, as well as tons of rainbow.  No steelhead or salmon, don't want the crowds.

I'd love to get a greenback cutthroat from the Yellowstone area, as well.

I still lack splake from the Boulder Mountain area in Utah.

Having fished in south-central Utah and the Provo and Weber rivers further north, I love Utah.  Why I seem to always mention it.  The Boulder Mountain area has tons of lakes with wild and stocked trout.  I'd have tubed a few of them, but my Dad didn't want to, he loved stream/rivers and dry fly fishing.
An absolute gas was fishing little Pine Creek on Boulder Mountain.  The widest spot I remember on the creek was about 3' and the deepest probably 18".  It's STUFFED with little, hungry, all natural cutthroats.  Our last trip up there, Pop couldn't handle the 10000' altitude, so we came down lower and hit Pine Creek.  In 4 hours of fishing, I had nearly 100 little cuts.  Some as small as 4", some as large as 9"-10", but most in the 6"-7" range.  Many would say big deal, they're all little, but it was so much fun.....and Pop could fish it easily.

You can check out my website if you'd like. It's a site dedicated to my fishing and outdoor adventures. I don't conduct any business from it, so I'm not gaining anything by anyone visiting it.

So I wanted to share with everyone the Red and Trout that Bigrbtrout had mentioned above. Oddly enough I am reading Dumb Luck and the Kindness of Strangers and they were targeting Redband trout. So here is a Redband Trout if you are not sure like I was not sure.
