Looks great thanks for you response. I have to say I have always loved the smell of coffee just never cared for the taste. Funny enough I made it every morning in the Fire House but never was had my own coffee.
For coffee, I'm a little atypical.
1. I hate burning my tongue (you don't want to see me tired, sleepy, AND irritated)... so I tend to drink iced coffee, or I wait for hot coffee to go cold.
2. I'm randomly lactose intolerant, and I like sugar so while I can drink my coffee black, I prefer lots of sugar, but taking a chance on a little cream before float tubing is out of the question.
3. I'm sensitive to artificial sweeteners so I tend to stay away from most flavor additives so while I won't spit something out on your windshield if I detect artificial sweeteners on something someone thought to get me, I will just not drink it. Usually, if someone is doing a coffee run, it's best not to try to introduce me to a new flavor without asking.
4. I strongly dislike contact with pee, the need to interrupt a float tube session to pee, and floating next my pee or someone else's pee so I try to not drink anything at all 2 hrs before a float tube session and it's highly desirable that there's a bathroom near where I launch.
LoL, when I'm on a friend's boat, I'm usually the one to wash down the side of the boat and the gunwhale after anyone pees.
You don't want to be the one that pees in front of my tent within throwing distance. I suck at throwing but if I can hit you, it's your fault that you have to go looking for your boot.
5. I actually prefer the taste of instant coffee over homemade coffee and if I order a coffee it's usually an iced coffee laced with chocolate or a plain iced coffee with plenty of sugar.
I must suck at making coffee because I've tried an old style coffee maker (before the Keurig days), a coffee press, a Keurig machine with standard "cups", and a Keurig machine with the metal mesh cup so you can use fresh ground coffee and I basically use my Keurig for making a spicy, self-sweetened tea (nothing added, and I buy the bags because I drink alot of it)... I just drop 2 bags into the K-cup compartment, add enough water (in stages) to fill a beer stein, then I pop the tea into a silicone trivet in my fridge that's cold enough to form ice if I leave the mug on the bottom level too long.
So how do I usually drink my coffee now?
I usually have a simple shake of lactose free milk, some protein powder, and I throw a random amount of instant coffee on top... usually in the morning and I tend to forget to make something to eat so I throw some peanut butter on a spoon into my mouth for some fat. I used to put it in with the coffee but I didn't like cleaning it out of my mixing cup.
The coffee wakes me up if my thyroid isn't going hyperactive... if I don't feel the effects of the caffeine, I know what's going on (when my thyroid is acting up I can chug Monster or Red Bull in large quantities because I like the taste, without getting tachy... if I get tachy after my 4th can of pressurized Monster in the morning, that's actually a good sign... Not just a sign to stop).
When I road trip, instead of coffee or caffeine pills I'll crunch Altoids or the white or red tic-tacs and then drink some Sprite (try it), that wakes me up better than caffeine.
