I will be finally heading out to do my first full Bike Packing Trip this weekend.  As discussed I will be leaving from my front door in La Habra and riding to Rolling M. Ranch in Chino Hills.  The Campground in just east of Prado Dam.  This will be a total of roughly 34 miles when completed.  I am all packed and have been riding a lot to be ready for this.  I will be using a Gossamer Gear Tent called The One.  I will be doing a review on that as well as a review on the Aero Bike Rack and a few other items as well.  I have to say I am excited to take this challenge and already looking for the next challenge.  I will be sure to share my experience with everyone once I am done and back home.  Well here goes nothing.

Thanks I will have a blast I am sure. I have a small rod and am thinking about doing some Tinkara fishing on my way back. Not sure if I will but I am set to give it a shot.

There are ultralight packable float tubes and complete ultralight outfits weighing a total of less than 5 lbs that work great for bikepacking, backpacking, and all types of travel when weight and volume are limited.  The lightest is the Tree Line 2.x which is a 2lb 14oz float tube with a pack volume of 7 liters in its stuff sack, including its double action inflation pump.  A heavier model at 3lb 6oz is the Backpacker Pro with more storage and other features including an inflatable seat that add 3.7 oz to the total weight.  The Backpacker Pro has a 9 liter pack volume in its stuff sack, including both its Ice-Out inflatable seat and the 3.4oz double action inflation pump.  Opti-Pack fins weighing just 15.9oz per PAIR are included in the complete ultralight float tube outfit from Wilderness Lite.

We gave away a Wilderness lite a few years ago as one of our Toy Drive Grand Prizes. I had the opportunity to set it up and check it out. These tubes are very lite and back able. They are also very well made. Thanks for the info I did not know that you had different versions now that is great.

It’s been a loooooong time since I’ve been on this site but saw my email notification about bike packing so had to click on it. You’re in my back yard so to speak. Lol. I live in CH and I bike CHSP often so I know exactly there you’re gonna be camping at. Be mindful of rattle snakes, mtn lions, coyotes and bobcats. Too bad there’s not a lake there for you to fish. Post up your progress as soon as you have signal. Looking forward to your journey and experience. Have fun and be safe. 🤙🤙

Thanks everyone this trip is in the books now.  Fishing did not happen this time, but I did have the chance to fish at Carbon Canyon Park and my next trip I will do some fishing on the way.

The trip was good for a first one.  I rode a full 17 miles and by the time I reached four corners I was sucking wind.  But I made it and from that point it was all down hill.  The campsite is nice and served me well.  I used The One Trekker Pole tent by Gossamer Gear.  It did great very small but I was very comfortable in it.  No Mountain Lions but I have seen them before, no Bobcats but I have seen them as well.  The Coyotes were singing all night.  We did hear that it was Snake and Tarantula mating season affraid Of course there were lots of tarantulas on the trail but no snakes were located either.  The ride home started at 9am.  It was the telegraph trail I would ride and of course hike a bike on the large hills.  The last one was a freaking wall.  When I reached the top with my bike and the 40 lbs of extra gear I felt accomplished.  From that point it was all down hill and back to my house.  So the whole trip was a total of 34 miles.  I can say in all honesty this kicked my butt, but I completed the whole ride.  I can also say I loved it and will be doing more trips soon.

Awesome! Glad you made it back safely & without calling Uber! Smile Not a small taking on your first trip at all, elevation is a killer! The next trip planning will be fun too. Don't rule out driving to the Eastern Sierras to camp & ride out from there in your future!

Good for you Jeff.

No pics of the mass Tarantula migrations? I have seen that before and it was wild.

Ya no pictures were talking as it was all about just moving forward. It was a tough trip but a fun one. I was more worried about walking up to them near it on my tent. But there were no ware to be found at the camp site

I've always wanted to bike pack. Never happened.

Last weekend I cleaned up and rode my bike, first time in over 6 years.
I need to work on my bike skills, manuals, hops, endo, track stands basically relearn everything.

Water temps are where they need to be for planting. Trout are still deep and the first couple weeks after first plants madness. Hopefully next weekend it'll be good forfishing.
I really just need to take a day off during the week & go.
