Since I've been on this new thing where i try to catch as many species as possible, fish ID has been a common thing for me.


Of all the fish the rockfish (Sebastes) are by far the hardest to ID. I was using the DFG's PDF files until somebody showed me this link:

That link has helped a ton!


Fishbase ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is another reallu good one with a TON of different species in their database. Use the "quick identification" link at the bottom to narrow down your search pretty quickly.


I have some other sites saved on my lap top....ill share then later if anybody wants them.

I'm usually good at fish ID's. seen most of the local fish here, caught 90% of them,.. but its the Rock fish that always gives me a little challenge when trying to ID them,. but good site to check out and learn more as always!

Up until now I had two fish species I considered everything to be lipable and non-lipable.
