I've read that some people take with them a flag, a whistle, or even a air horn in case you encounter a problem while out on the water.  I took out my new action cam tonight and made a short video of what I take with me in case I have troubles or start to sink far from shore.    Most of the time I go alone, and if I am in the water, I don't plan on my cell phone working. So I take a small water proof container of this dye.  This dye will work in day or night if hit with a light.  It is not toxic and wont harm fish.
I really wish the camera could have picked up the true color of this stuff, It is a really bright neon green but is hard to see in the video. As you can see, I use only 3 drops in the demo.  I take a few ounces with me while fishing.

Another way I can explain this dye is by using the example of a scene in the movie Top Gun.

I went out for the very first time on saturday 01/17 in the harbor and almost got ran over. I was aware of my surroundings and maneuvered away to let him pass when I realized he wasn't trying to steer away from me. The guy passed me and said sorry I didn't see you you're so low to the water and your tube is camouflaged (Cumberland). I was crossing the channel if that makes any sense. I have a whistle around my neck and I'll have a bright orange flag the next time I go out.

I have been in your situation at Lake Perris many times fishing out by the trench.
I the old days at Perris we we confined to stay inside the bouy line and it was safer.
but the enforcement has changed since Paul Frost no longer has control a the lake.
it is nice to be able to fish in deeper water but we do have to watch for other Boats all the time

It all depends on the current and how much the water is moving around. If its calm water the dye will sit there for a long time before it dissipates. I don't use the dye to be seen by other boaters, I keep it on me in case I start sinking and can't make it back to shore. This is so safety crews can spot me easier for a water or air rescue. I need to come up with a flag setup for my tube to make it easier for boaters to see me.

If I had a way to send you all some I would. I would just need ideas on what type of water proof container to use. Right now I am just using a old pill bottle.
