Since it's trout time in our local lakes, I thought I would throw this out there… Caught several "over 10" Rainbows with this method. Many years ago, an older fisherman showed me his secret for catching big trout at Irvine Lake while fishing from shore. This guy who was fishing next to me was getting one giant after another. So after giving him a sandwich and soda, I asked him how he was rigged, and he told me his method… The best way to catch a big trout is to flyline a large live nightcrawler, hooked in the middle with a number 8 circle hook, then take a small marshmallow and cover the hook point with it. As the worm crawls along the bottom, the white marshmallow stands out and gets the fish's attention. And BLAM!.. the trout grabs the worm/marshmallow and takes off! With the circle hook, there's no need to "set the hook". The trout will hook themselves as they swim off with the bait. Just grab your rod out of the rod holder and start reeling in the fish! Use a fairly light line, no more than 4 lb test so you can cast it out some distance from shore. This method really works! Here's a 14 pounder that I mounted that hangs on my wall as proof!
