My buddy and Perris regular Sonny recently caught this 3.8 lb, 15 1/4 inch Redear on one of his own jigs.  Quite a fish!

..And might I add, that Sonny fishes strictly with 2 lb test! For those of you that have hooked into a 1 pound or larger Redear, you know how they can really pull out your drag, once they realize they are hooked!

Sonny caught it at Havasu, along with several other sunfish over 2 lbs! Thanks to the introduction of those freshwater Quagga Mussels, the Redear have grown to gigantic proportions.

Well, I've heard that Lake Irvine now has those mussels.  Not sure if there are Redears in the lake,.. if not, they should dump in a few hundred.  Help keep the control of the mussel down, plus the sunfish grow really big feeding on pure protein.

guess there's not enough manpower at DBW to keep up with the inspections. Think I read on the USDA's site that contact with 140 degree or hotter water kills juvenilles and larvae in a few seconds. Suppose to work on New Zealand snails as well. I try to soak my waders in hot water before and after visiting the Sierras.
