I have been thinking of using wetsuit pants (1.5mm Neoprene Diving Pants -- with separate neoprene socks) instead of waders for fishing in late Spring.  The advantage would be cost and less hydrodynamic drag. I suspect that I would have water leak between the pants and the socks, but I am not worried so much about staying dry as staying warm in cool (not cold) water.

Has anyone tried this?

I've given it some thought..........back in the day I use to knee board, use to wear a 'Long John', no sleves. I still might buy a pair for going thru the weeds for LMB....just my 2 cents......GT

I used wetsuits until I got my breathable waders. I have 3 wetsuits, 5mm johns, 3 mm long sleeve, and 2mm short sleeve. All worked great in the donut style tube. With the Cumberland I just sit too high, only my shins in the water, butt gets wet.
The neoprene pants will work, but I think the breathable waders or pants would be better for the tube.

I used my surfing wetsuits for a while until I got my wader's. They work fine. You get wet but if you're ok with that they'll definitely work and keep you warm if it's the right amount of rubber.

I use a wet suit currently. Other then early spring It keeps me good and warm.. and I live in Canada. I wouldn't want to experience the feeling of waders filling up if I found myself in the water. That being said I would probably still wear waders more often if I had a cheaper pair then the ones I use for river steelhead.
