best fish finder for a tube?

Long time tuber, just found this forum. My Creek Company original u-boat has just sunk and I am waiting for the widely recommended her Cumberland with the current Costco deal.

I feel I will want to include a fish finder now, what model do you recommend? I have Echo 200 on my kayak but that is too large I feel. Side/bottom scanning is a common feature these days, do you feel this is worth it?

I am OK with paying $200 if needed if the performance is much improved vs those $100 units.

First off, Welcome to the forum Ohiotuber. I found this forum the same way you did, looking for a replacement tube. There is a thread going right now about fish finders with plenty of pro's and con's to consider.

The best fishfinder for float tubes is ANY fishfinder YOU want! The fact that you're on a float tube really isn't an issue.

You can go lean and mean or you can go big and bold. It all works.

I just posted a video here in the "Show your Float" section on how I do my iPad setup. The basic approach can be adapted to any fishfinder. I'm running the Raymarine Wi-Fish and I love the amazing detail of the downvision sonar. Added to the massive 9.7 in display on the iPad and it's like watching a movie.

So I'm in the "Yes" column for the "is downvision worth it" question. But like I say, whatever fishfinder you want will work on a tube, so get whatever you like.

I worried that my 5" Echo 200 would be too large. Looks like this is not the case at all. The echo is mounted on my kayak with the RAM mount. I think I should be able to add RAM ball to the FT as well and easily move the units between both boats.

Also, I did not know about those wireless sonars. Messing with a cellphone on the FT seems like major PITA to be me.
