Okay this is likely just temporary till I get one of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

I was just wondering if anyone has tried just sticking it under the foam on a Fishcat with the foam seat? Going try this out and see how it works out. If it works well, I just may leave as is and save the cash for something else.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

How did that workout you?

Thanks

PS I did this knowing the area is always filled with water when on the lake, So I'm thinking it should work. Time will tell.

seems like you would be bouncing a bit of interference being so close to the underside of the tube on the seat with the fabric still covering the transducer , would be like a bunch of weeds getting stuck on it , thus just giving you noise and not showing anything correctly .. if it goes through the fabric well there then pointing it forward is very close to the movement from our fins causing maybe another concern ?

Great thinking there , but as a few others have said i think the mount maybe a better solution to the problem .

Well it didn't workout like I wanted, it kept shifting. So I did a temporary mount that worked fine except for catching all kinds of weeds. So many weeds that even the back packing D rings under the seat were getting caught. Force fins and my legs were catching all the weeds as well. In a pinch I works just need to mount on the outside of tube instead of near seat. Weeds would have been a problem no matter where it was mounted. Weeds were all over on Crowley. Did perfectly fine on Ellery and Upper Twins. No weed problems up in the high elevation lakes.

Here are a few images of the temporary setup.

Oh and yes I did clip off all the tag ends of those zip ties.

Hey that is a pretty clean looking transducer mount, sorry for the weeds but nice work.

Thanks Jeff. It's a super easy and inexpensive way of mounting a transducer. $4 for the aluminum bar at Home Depot. Zip ties I already had. If you have a bucket laying around, you can slowly start bending as much as you need. I'm sure each tube has different diameter tubes.

It doesn't have to be that low. Mine isn't even submerged unless I'm in the tube.

I already had a existing single rod holder so I made a coupler to go on the bottom of it and still be above the bottom of the tube.

Nice . I will be working on my new set up this next week if I don't melt. I just picked up the Lowrance Hook 4 and bought a Scotty transducer arm to see what I can come up with.

Maybe too late for you, but for $20 the Scotty [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] mount gives you a plate to mount the finder on and a plate to mount the transducer on and a strap to go around the tube. Very simple and works great. You can see it on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I took my little brother float tubing for the first time on Wednesday. To be on even footing I used my tube. The pre-trip check out revealed my original transducer mounting spot was designed for the 83-200 transducer like on the Hook series. My new, extra long transducer is too long to fit with mount toward the back and reversing it makes it stick out pretty far. Kind of a pain going through lily pads like that, they catch, break and slow me down.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Still, had a nice day. Caught five bass and broke my previously snapped and repaired rod on a pike.

Nice fish! Thanks for the report.

For me it's the transducer in the kelp, but it's mounted on the end of the left tube with the long part pointing forward, so it's just the blunt back end of the transducer hitting in my direction of travel and since it is forward of my seat, I can kick it free with my fin when it snags.

With that placement, I do get a little bit of a return from my fins right at the surface, but it's never been an issue. Might be worth test mounting yours on the front of your rig to see how it goes.
