I have been meaning to get an introduction written but stuff spell with s**t kept happening. I am Terry from Texas, longtime bass fisherman and still a rookie at fly fishing even though i have been fly fishing for a number of years.

I recently found out that I had Glaucoma and Cataracts in my eyes. 3 weeks ago i went in to see my eye specialist and she bluntly stated that its time for me to decide if and when we cut the cataracts out. I knew the vision had changed but did not realize the extent. I go back in on Tuesday the 4th of June to get the first cataract surgery scheduled.

If you notice something changing with you eyes, take the bull by the horns, nuts, what ever you can grab and get the ball ruling to check it out. I almost waited to long and hopefully the damage won't be that bad. The retinal specialist said everything looks good from his side of the eye.

Blessings to all, I will soon be back on the water.
Tc

Welcome to the forum Terry and good luck with the eye surgery.

I truly hope to see some pictures a bass you caught on the fly soon.

I think you will be astounded with the improvement once the cataracts are gone. In my case as my vision became more and more blurred I was impatient for the Doc to decide that they (both eyes) were developed enough to go get them.

As to the surgery, it has become absolutely routine in the U.S. these days. Every reason to believe that it will go well.

As for the glaucoma, you probably know that there are two versions, and I don't remember which is which. I have had the more common version for a couple of decades now. It is treatable with Rx eye drops; although I have found that it takes more, and stronger, drops as time goes on. Good news is that I can still thread a hook, so they work.

A word to our fellow fishermen. You may delay, if not prevent, cataracts by diligently using UV protection glasses when out on the water. Cataracts are almost an occupational hazard among professional pilots---and sun glasses aren't just a fashion statement.
